The Thirteenth Day of June the yeare of our Lord 1591 and in the three and Thirtith yeare of our Sovereign Lady Queen Elizabeth

In the Name of God, Amen

I William Dawtrey of Chichester in the Countie of Sussex Esquire being weak and sick of bosy but of good and perfect remembrance Do make ordaine and consitute this my last will and testament in manner and forme followinge

First I bequeath my body to the earth to be disposed of accordinge to Gods good pleasure and my Soule into the handes of almightie God Existinge by the merritts and passion of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ to be saved beseeching him to assist me with his holy Spirit that I may continue his faithfull servante unto the ende And for the disposition of my worldly goodes and such other things as I have to Disposses

First I Will that whereas my Sonne John Dawtrey standeth bound to Richard Lewkenor Lawrence Sroughton and Adrian Sroughton Esquire by Statute of Staple for the payment of one hundred pounds within thirty nine monthes after my Decease And also standeth bound by like Statute for the payment of one other hundred pounds within thirteen monthes next after the Decease of me the said William Dawtrey and Marie my wife which somme of two hundred pounds is mine to Dispose eyther by my last will and testament or by anie other act to be executed in my life tyme as by one part of Indenture had a made between me the said William Dawtrey and the parties aforesaid bearinge Date the nynth of April in the one and Thirtithe yeare of the Queen’s majestie Reigne more at large appeareth

Now my will is and mynde is that four score pounds of the said first paymente first hundred pounds shallbe payed to Charles Dawtrey my sonne and the other twenty pounds to my sister Jane Pappworth

And for the other hundred pounds payable after the decease of me and Marie my wife I will unto my sonne Anthony fifty pounds thereof And to my Daughter Jane forty pounds and the other tenne pounds residue of the said last hundred pounds I will to Mary Sroughton Daughter of Edward Sroughton gentleman

Also my will intente and mynde further is that my sister Papworth shall have one house lying in Sutton with four acres of land thereunto appertayning To have and to holde to her and her heirs for ever

Item I will unto one William Warner Dwelling with one ___ of Fittleworth five pounds thirteen shillings four pence to be payed within three monthes next after my Decease out of goodes and Chattells

Item I will and bequeath to Catherine Crockford five pounds thirteen shillings four pence to be payed unto her within three monthes likewise after my Decease over and above the three pounds ___ her

Item I will unto Henry Dawtrey sonne of William Dawtrey my ___ Ring

And I will that the wainscott about the house of More shall not be removed but contynue for my heires

And I will and bequeath to the poor of the parish of Petworth five pounds

And to each of my household servants twenty shillings apiece

Item I give to Mary Dawtrey my wife my gelding called Crayfold and one bay spayed mare and one gelding which I gave her before called the ___ gelding over and above the goodes which I gave her before by my Deed

Also I make and ordaine Executors of this my last will and testament Laurence Stoughton Esquire and John Dawtrey my Sonne

And I give unto Mr Henry Baale my nagge called Sother being a bay nagge

Item I will that Mary my wife shall have her __ and borders to her owne use over and above that I have before given together with the bracellettes and Rings

Published and pronounced by the said William Dawtrey as his last will and testament in the presence of us
