In the Name of God, Amen

The year of our Lord god a Thousand five hundreth fourty and two the 23 Day of August I Sir John Dawtrey Knight being sick of body hole and of parfict memory do ordeyn and make my last will and testament in forme and maner hereafter following

First I bequeath my Soul unto almighty god and to our blessed Lady saint mary and to all the ___ company of hevyn to pray for me

And my body to be burie in the Church of Petworth next where my wife lyeth

Also I bequeath unto the mother Church of Chichester ____

Item to the high ___ of Petworth ___

Item to the Church of Petworth to the ___ of the Settlements of the said Church ___

Item to the Church of Waltham to bye them a Crosse and a Banner of Silk to the said Crosse

Item to every man servant that in my wages in my house over and above his wages ___

Item in like manner to every woman servant ___

Item I give to John Goble my servant ___

Item I the said John Goble the house that he dwelleth in called Epires paying no Rent during his life naturall

Item to John Heth the house that he dwelleth in called Catford North all such Landes as he now occupieth in his __ landes pertaining to the said house paying no Rent during his naturall life

Item I give to Joane Mornsiter my Servant __ in money during her naturall lyfe to be payd out of my Lande of River’s Hall And for lck of payment of the said __ she to ___ in and upon the Manor and Landes of Rivers Hall aforesaid

Item to the said Joane the house in the North Field that Hugh Edmund dwelleth in with the garden thereto pertaining paying no Rent term of her lyfe the ___ of the said house ___ like

Item to the said Joane a featherbed which she now lyeth upon and a ___ coverlet that I bought to the said Bedd and a Bolster and pillows and a pair of blanketts and three pair of ___ sheets

Item to the making of the high way in the north field from Horseth gate unto the house that Robert Heth dwelleth

Item to Thomas Dawtrey my sonne my gown of black Damask and a Jacquet of ___ ___

Item to Anthony my Sonne my black ___ gown and my black ___ Jacquet and a black Damask Goblet

Item to Thomas Dawtrey my sonne I give Twenty marks by the year out of Rivers Hall during his naturall lyfe

Also I will that if it fortune Thomas Dawtrey to dye before Anthony that Anthony to enjoy his part and portion

Item I will that if it fortune Anthony to Depart the World before Thomas then Thomas Dawtrey to enjoy his part and portion

Item I give to John Myllyngton my Servnat __ my money by year during his naturall lyfe as it appeareth by a patent by me made and granted

Item I give and bequeath unto John Dawtrey my Sonne the hangings in the hall and a ___ of ___ and by Sufficient made of Carpett Work with my ___

The Residue of my Stuff and implements of household I will equally to be divided between Thomas Dawtrey Anthony Dawtrey and Jane my Daughter except two ___ two ___ and two great ___ be ___ to the __ of Nicholas Ropley

Item I will that such Catall Cows and Shepe and all other to husbandry belonging to be equally divided between my three Somnnes

Item I will that my Daughter Jane Dawtrey to have yearly until she marryed ____ and after a __ Cloth the price ___ ___ in lawfull money ____ to be paid by my Sonne John out of Rivers Hall yf she contynues not in householde with him but in case she contynues with him then my Sonne John Dawtrey to fynde her all neccessaries at his cost and ___ and she to clayme no part of the _____ neither her ___ Cloth

Furthermore I will Jane Dawtrey to have to her marriage an hundreth pounds in lawfull money of my Sonne John Dawtrey And if he refuse or deny to pay the hundred pounds Then I will that my Sonne John Dawtrey shall give her yearly during her naturall lyfe ______ in lawfull money of England and a ___ Cloth yearly to the value above specified to come out of Lands of Rivers Hall

Item I will and give my Sonne John Dawtrey all my Landes of Rivers Hall subequeathed and all my debts owed to me to perform this my testament and last will

Also I do ordeyn and Make John Dawtrey my Soone my Sole Executor to perform and fulfil my last will and testament
