In the Name of God, Amen

I Sir John Dawtrey of More in the parish of Petworth in the Countie of Sussex, Knight, sick in body and of good and ___ mynd and remembrance make my last will and testament in manner and forme followyng

First I will my soule to almighty god my redeemer and maker And my body to be buried in Saint Thomas Channcel next to the parish Church of Petworth aforesaid where it shall please my Executors

Item I will to be distributed to the poore people at the day of my buriall Three pounds and at my monthly day in likewise to the poore people Three pounds ___

Item I give and bequeath to Richard Gratwicke my first Twenty Shillings And to Anne Lynnard my second

Also I give and bequeath to every of my other family ___ household ___ at the Day of my Decease by and by

Item I give and bequeath to Jane Dawtrey and Anne Dawtrey my two Daughters towards their marriage __ of them one hundred pounds yf they be ordered and committed by their friends and to be delivered to them at the Day of their marriage

Item I will if any of them dye afore they be married Then I will the ___ of them to ___ whole two hundred pounds

Item I give and bequeath to Edward Dawtrey my sonne an Annuity or yearly Rent of ___ ___ by the year paying out of all my Messuages houses gardeyns landes Tenements and hereditaments in Petworth aforesaid and Waltham To have and to hold the said Annuity or yearly Rent of ___ unto the said Edward and his Assigns during his natural lyfe to be paid quarterly by ___ portions And if Defaulte of payment be made at any quarter to the said Edward of the said annuity or yearly Rent or any part thereof Then it shallbe lawfull for the said edward and his assigns to enter into the said Lands and all other the premises and ___ until such tyme the said yearly Rent be satisfied and paid to the said Edward and his Assigns with the arranged of the same as may be.

Item I give and bequeath to Thomas Dawtrey one other of my sonnes an Annuity or yearly Rent of Tenne pounds by the year paying out of all my said Messuages houses gardens Lands Tenemenats and hereditaments mentioned in Petworth and Waltham aforesaid To have and to hold the said Annuity or yearly Rent __ unto the said Thomas Dawtrey and his Assigns during the natural life to be paid quarterly by ___ portions but if Default of payment be made at any quarter unto the said Thomas of the said Annuity or yearly Rent or any part thereof Then it shall be lawfull for the said Thomas and his assigns to enter into the said lands and all other the premisses and ____ and that Retayn and keep until such tyme the said yearly Rent be fully satisfied and paid to the said Thomas and his Assigns with the arranged of the same as may be.

Item I give and bequeath to John Myllyngton my friend an Annuity or yearly Rent of ___ by the year And unto **John ***** my Neighbour one annuity or yearly Rent of *** by the year paying out of the lands and other the premises aforesaid To have and to holde the said Annuity or yearly Rent to the said **John Myllyngton** and **John ***** during their natural lyfes in like *** of ___ as is aforesaid for nonpayment thereof

Item I give and bequeath all my said Messuages houses gardyns Landes Tenements and hereditaments incl their appurtenances in Petworth and Waltham aforesaid unto Dame Johan my wife To have and to hold the said Messuages houses gardens Lands Tenements and hereditaments incl their appurtenances unto the said Dame Johan during the tyme that she shallbe sole and without husband

Item I will further and bequeath all the same Messuages houses gardyns Lanes Tenements and Hereditaments incl their appurtenances in Petworth and Waltham aforesaid Immediately after the said Dame Joane my wife hereafter shall be married or deceased unto William Dawtrey my sonne paying the Annuities aforesaid To have hold enjoy all the same Messuages houses gardens Landes Tenements and hereditaments incl their appurtenances unto the said William Dawtrey his heirs and assigns forever

Item I give and bequeath to John Dawtrey and Thomas Dawtrey my Sonnes each of them Twenty pounds to be taken of the Rents and Issues of all my Landes and Tenements in Sussex before not willed and to be delivered and paid unto the said John and Thomas by the discretion of my Executors

Item I will give and bequeath all the residue of my Manors Lands Tenements Rents ___ and hereditamens whatsoever they be with their appurtenances in the said Countie of Sussex to Dame Johan my wife and her assigns and to pay the ___ all my Legacies to my said Daughters Debts and Funeral

And after the ___ and Issues of the same Manors Landes Tenements Rents Annuities aforesaid and hereditaments be taken and payed to the ___ aforesaid Then I will that the said Dame Joane my said wife shall have hold and enjoy all the same Manors Landes Tenements Rents Annuities ___ and hereditaments in the Countie of Sussex aforesaid To the said Dame Johane during her naturall lyfe

And after the Decease of the said Dame Johane my wife I will and give the same Manors Landes Tenements Rents Annuities ___ and hereditaments unto William Dawtrey my said Sonne To have and to hold the same manors Landes Tenements Rents Annuites ___ and hereditamnets inc their appurtenances unto the said William Dawtrey and his heirs forever

Item I give and bequeath unto William Dawtrey my Sonne my Chain of gold And to John Dawtrey all my __ apparell

Item I make and ordayn Dame Joane my wife my sole executrix of this my last will and testament And I give unto the said Dame Joane all the Residue of my goods and Chattels Plate and Jewels before not willed to distribute at her will

And I make and ordeyn for William Goryng, Knight for Francis Dawtrey, Knight John Court Thomas Onley Esquire and William Dawtrey my said Sonne to be my Overseers of this my last will and testament Desiring them to take payment in the premisses And I give ___ of them for their payment

In witness whereof I the said Sir John Dawtrey Knight have caused this ___ last will and testament to be made and written This 13th day of December In the third year of Reign of our Sovereign Lord Edward the Sixth by the grace of god King of England France and Ireland Defender of the Faith and of the Church of England and also of Ireland in ___ the supreme head And in the year of our lord god One thousand fyfe hundred fortie and nyne
