Preface
This book is a work in progress.
On my personal website (“Nurse Family History” 2023), I have published a number of articles on my research into my family history, in particular the origins and history of my Nurse line, ancestors of my great grandparents Robert Francis and Sarah Elizabeth Nurse, and I have decided to bring all that research together in a more conventional book format.
Recently, I discovered a publishing tool called Quarto (“Quarto” 2023). While Quarto was designed and is marketed as a scientific and technical publishing system, it can be used for any form of publishing. Quarto allows the creator to use individual Markdown (“Markdown” 2023) files that can be published as blog posts or combined into a book.
Fortunately, I have been using Markdown for a couple of years to create my blog posts, so the move to Quarto has not been too difficult. As I create new articles for my blog, I can use Quarto to publish (convert) them for my blog, and then with minor modifications I can incorporate them into this work-in-progress book.
The book is divided into four parts:
- Part 1 focuses on Robert and Sarah’s Hanham ancestors
- Part 2 focuses on Robert’s Wiltshire ancestors
- Part 3 focuses on the Ancestors of John Taylor and Rebecca Luther my 5x great grandparents
- Part 4 includes biographies of famous and/or interesting ancestors, like Sir Thomas More and Nathaniel Bacon
- Part 5 looks at the links to British and European Royalty that I have discovered
At some time in the future I hope to be able to use Quarto’s ability to publish the book as a PDF file to create a real hard-copy book.
